In India,

higher FDI cap may be a need
to relook at sector caps
-says RBI study report
In India, as the county's economy integrate further with global economy, there may be a need to relook at the sectoral caps restrictions on FDI flows, says Reserve Bank of India's study report released earler this month, on FDI flows to India.
Reportedly the study said there are certain sectors, including agriculture, where FDI is not allowed, while sectoral caps in some sectors such as insurance and media are relatively low compared to the global pattern.
According to news reports, RBI said demand for raising the present FDI limit of 26 percent in the insurance sector may be reviewed taking into account the changing demographic patterns as well as the role of insurance companies in supplying the required long-term finance in the economy.
About the retail sector, the study report said that given the international experience, it is argued that FDI in retail would help in reaping the benefits of organised supply chains and reduction in wastage in terms of better prices to both farmers and consumers.
Reportedly main apprehensions are the FDI in retail would expose the domestic retailers and hence significant job losses. A balanced and objective view need to be taken in this regard.
According to news reports, FDI in retail has long-term benefits for the economy which outweigh any potential threats to domestic retailers...The so called threat to mom and pop stores is completely unfounded, as the structure of the distribution and retail network is completely different from the developed markets, news reports said.

India's Finance Minister,
Pranab Mukherjee
****************
In the US, IMF and the World Bank hold G-20 countries meeting in Washington, and leaders had consequently tasked to main jobs and employment issues into the framework excercise. Persistent high unemployment trends to have significant long-lasting detrimental impacts on the economy, holding back economic recovery further, and adding to social tensions and adversely affecting productivity and growth in medium to long-term.
India's Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee reportedly said the world has been pre-occupied with dealing with problems in the financial sector.
Mr. Mukherjee reportedly argued saying some countries have been stressing the need to step up effects to support investment in the real sector, and especially in infrastructure at a global level to help revive global growth and support demand and jobs creation.
He said this route to reviving global growth has not received attention that it merits. To the extent that much of this investment, including in infrastructure will occur in developing countries, it would also help rebalance global demand, and redirect savings. Some developed countries also need to increase investment and upgrade their infrastructure, saying G20 countries will need to develop a framework to assess the progress much on G20 commitments.
The Framework Working Group, he said has indicated that assessment in some areas is complicated by the lack of a common framework to assess progress, news reports said.
What is needed globally is some countries need to encourage small businesses and cottage industries, which can create wealth and jobs, and this sector needs attention and it seems, this sector is a backbond of the economy, said observers.

O human! self trouble not the world,
compare self as the same as all,

why should be troubled

O wild waves! be not thunder

Forget not the earth, from the sun,

Today's India
needs strong unity
nationwide to achieve
prosperity and peace
Vallabh Kaviraj
in London
*India, the glorious ancient land with full of resources, manpower, rich culture and a considerable wealth of all kinds, is now seen globally as the land of opportunities for prosperity and world peace in this New Age.
*India is many-but it is a great one nation with over one billion people who have different languages, different religions, traditions and customs though culturally they are one people who have lived together culturally for centuries, that was the beauty of the great country India.
*Today's India is gaining a strong ground in the globalised world. Its progressive economy attracted a large number of world's countries to build bilateral relations. The country has got a considerable natural resources, wealth and talented manpower.
*Geographically its paramount boundry from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, its wall of moutains in the east and sea routes of Arabian sea and Indian ocean give a vast opportunity to build its strength as well as to create more wealth to become a rich nation again.
*India was one paramount nation before its Independence which was gained on 15th of August 1947. The British Raj maintained a strong unity of India and built up a powerful British Empire during its rule in India.
*However, unfortunately partition of India, creating Pakistan out of one nation India before 15th of August 1947, caused a grave concern to the whole South Asia region.
*In 1971, Bangldesh was created out of east Pakistan, since, India has to face another boundry issue, and in 1961, China and India fought a war over Tibet issue and caused a boundry issue that is not resolved yet.

high in our country
Premier Dr. Manmohan Singh
************************
In India, releasing a report on Hunger and Malnutrition in New Delhi on Tuesday, Premier Dr. Manmohan Singh reportedly said the problem of malnutrition is a matter of national shame. Despite impressive growth of GDP, the level of under-nutrition in the country is unacceptably high, news reports said.
Reportedly Prime Minister Dr. Singh said the government cannot rely soley on the Integrated Child Development Scheme to tackle it, and pointed out that India had not succeeded in reducing the levels of manutrition fast enough and said though the ICDS continues to be our most important tool to fight malnutrition, we can no longer rely soley on it and we need to focus on districts where malnutrition levels are high where conditions causing malnutrition prevail and said that policy makers and programme implementers need to clearly understand many linkages - between education and health, sanitation and hygiene, drinking water and nutrition and the shape their responses accordingly. He said he had always believed that mother's education level, economic status of the family, sanitation and hygiene, status of woman in the family, breastfeeding and other good child rearing practices affect children's nutrition, the survey has broadly validated these hypotheses.
Premier Dr. Singh reportedly said his government was working to launch a strengthened and restructured ICDS to start a multi-sectoral programme for 200 high burden districts and initiate a nationwide communication campaign against malnutrition, news reports said.
